On September 9th 2016 at 10:00 am representatives from across Lawrence County converged on the new site for the Lawrence County Detention Center in Walnut Ridge.

Those in attendance for the ceremony were Sheriff Jeff Yates, Chief Deputy Tony Waldrupe, Jail Administrator Debbie Burleson, State Representative James Ratliff, Judge Weeks, members of the Lawrence County Quorum Court, elected officials from Lawrence County, Mayor Charles Snapp of Walnut Ridge, Mayor Bonnie Ragsdale of Black Rock, Mayor Larry Gibbens of Ravenden, Chief Tim McComas of Ravenden, Chief Frank Owens of the Walnut Ridge Fire Department, Representatives from Judge Dale Freeman’s office and other guest.

Before the official ceremony was conducted many of the Quorum Court Members and elected officials reflected on the long process of getting to this point, several mentioned sleepless nights and many discussions approaching this project. After voters passed a tax, the Quorum Court approved a design and finally the ground breaking, the long awaited Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detention Center is underway.

After the ceremony took place Mayor Snapp stated “this is a great day for Walnut Ridge and Lawrence County”, Sheriff Yates also said this was the beginning of a much needed improvement for the Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence County.
