A string of break-ins in Lawrence County has sheriff’s deputies combing the county roads in several areas of the county. Detectives on Tuesday worked 6 cases of residential burglary that occurred on Monday in the areas of Hwy 228, Lawrence 635 and Hwy 91. While investigations into these break-ins were being preformed, reports of two more incidents were reported to county deputies, one on Lawrence 403 and one on Lawrence 511.

Several of these incidents have reported a grey or silver mini-van or small SUV in the area, similar thefts have occurred in Craighead County with a suspect vehicle description matching the one in Lawrence County according to Captain Stan Finely of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Division.

Deputies combed the roads in the Sedgwick, Alicia, Clover Bend and Portia areas on Tuesday, checking abandoned buildings, farm shops and residences looking for the suspect vehicle. The break-ins in the county have been between the hours of 8 am. and 5 pm. mostly on rural county roads, jewelry and 2 guns have been reported stolen.

Captain Finely stated that patrol efforts were going to be increased, extra deputies are being called in to assist in the investigation and patrols of the rural areas.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office ask residents to be on the look out for suspicious vehicles in their areas and urge residents to call in or email tips to Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from Lawrence County met with members of the Office of Emergency Services early Tuesday at the Walnut Ridge Police Department where OES had set up it’s command post. Once the drill started, Police and Fire Departments checked their assigned areas for damage and the sheriff’s office sent deputies to do road checks throughout the county. Information from these road and bridge checks was relayed back to the OES Command Post.

Sheriff’s Deputies also used the drill to inspect the majority of roads in the Portia, Clover Bend, Strangers Home, Alicia, Minturn and Sedgwick areas, reporting any problems.

Black Rock Firefighters responded with two engines to the scene, Black Rock Fire Chief Pat Roby arrived on scene and advised dispatch that the house was fully involved. A request was made for manpower and equipment from the Imboden Volunteer Fire Department to assist.

Imboden responded with it’s Engine 6 and Rescue 4 along with several firefighters. AET Ambulance was also on standby at the scene as was the Black Rock Police Department for traffic control.

The structure was a total loss, a minor injury was reported.

Sheriff Dotson placed one vehicle at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office in Walnut Ridge and one vehicle at the Imboden Sub-Station, giving both sides of the county access to these vehicles in the event of flooding, inclement weather or any need which may arise.

The cost of the vehicles was $260.00 each for transfer fees and just $30.00 for each trailer. The addition of the 2 vehicles to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office brings the total of military vehicles added to Lawrence County to 6. Walnut Ridge Police has two, Ravenden Police has two and now the LCSO has two. All through this LESO 1033 program.

Captain Stan Finley gave us a tour in the vehicle kept at Walnut Ridge, showing the vehicles ability to navigate county roads and low-lying areas throughout the county. These vehicles have high ground clearance, 4-wheel drive and are very heavy, allowing them to move through swift water and flooded areas not accessible by the Sheriff’s patrol vehicles according to Captain Finley. The vehicles were also exercised during the recent snowfall, Captain Finley took the vehicle stored at Imboden for a tour on the snow covered roads around Imboden and said it performed perfect.

Sheriff Dotson stated this addition to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was one of several additions in place in preparations for weather or search and rescue operations in the future for Lawrence County.

The Ravenden Volunteer Fire Department is holding it’s Annual Fund Raiser on March 3rd, tickets are $2 per ticket or 10 tickets for $5. The fund raiser will include Bingo, Cake Walk, Door Prizes and a lot of fun!

The concession stand will serve Smoked BBQ, Boston Butts, Hotdogs, Hamburgers, Chili Dogs, Nachos and Drinks.

Also a raffle will also be held, 1st prize is $300, 2nd prize is $150 and 3rd prize is $50. Winners do not have to be present to win. The Ravenden Volunteer Fire Department wishes to Thank everyone for the continued support.
