According to reports, a Stone County Deputy pulled an unconscious man from a burning vehicle. Once the man regained consciousness he allegedly struck the deputy, and attempted to flee on foot.
According to the affidavit, a Stone County Deputy Sheriff was attempting to stop a red Cadillac speeding in excess of 100 mph on Nov. 8th.
The fleeing vehicle left the roadway in a curve, flipped over twice coming to rest on its top, the vehicle then burst into flames.
The driver, identified as Paul Douglas Adams, age 26, of Mountain View, was unconscious when the deputy pulled him out of the burning vehicle and moved him away from the burning car.
When the suspect regained consciousness, the deputy informed him he was under arrest. Adams stated “he wasn’t going to jail†according to court documents.
Adams then got up from the ground, struck the Deputy on the side of the head, and then fled into the woods.
Other officers joined in the foot pursuit, Adams was arrested and transported to the Stone County Jail.
Adams was charged with felony fleeing in a vehicle and felony battery in the second degree. Adams was also charged with three misdemeanors, resisting arrest, fleeing on foot, and reckless driving.
Adams is also a habitual offender, convicted of felonies in both Pope and Jackson counties.
Adams bail was set at $100,000.
