POCAHONTAS, AR Sept. 17— BRTC Freshmen Caleb Myers, Steven Layne, and Braedan Noblin recently completed theEmergency Medical Responder (EMR) class in BRTC’s Firefighter Essentials Program. They then took the Arkansas Fire Academy’s EMR certification exam, and all three passed iton the first attempt, which gives BRTC a 100% pass rate on thisexam for two years in a row. 

Passing the exam certifies these three students as Emergency Medical Responders. Becoming a certified Emergency Medical Responder is a prerequisite for the state’s Firefighter I and IIexams given at the end of the BRTC’s Firefighter Essentials Program.

Black River Technical College is a 2-year community college in Pocahontas and Paragould which offers associates degrees and certificates in general education and technical and career education. The College houses one of the state’s law enforcement training academies and fire science academies. BRTC has 2,500 full- and part-time students.
