POCAHONTAS, AR Sept. 17â€” BRTC Freshmen Caleb Myers, Steven Layne, and Braedan Noblin recently completed theEmergency Medical Responder (EMR) class in BRTCâ€™s Firefighter Essentials Program. They then took the Arkansas Fire Academyâ€™s EMR certification exam, and all three passed iton the first attempt, which gives BRTC a 100% pass rate on thisexam for two years in a row.
Passing the exam certifies these three students as Emergency Medical Responders. Becoming a certified Emergency Medical Responder is a prerequisite for the stateâ€™s Firefighter I and IIexams given at the end of the BRTCâ€™s Firefighter Essentials Program.

Black River Technical College is a 2-year community college in Pocahontas and Paragould which offers associates degrees and certificates in general education and technical and career education. The College houses one of the stateâ€™s law enforcement training academies and fire science academies. BRTC has 2,500 full- and part-time students.
