Black River Technical Collegewill host the first annual Firefighter Games on May 4, 2021,from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on the Pocahontas Campus.

The games will include two scored events. The first is the timed Drill Tower Event where participants will don firefighter turnouts, correctly attach a firehose, and drag the hose to the proper position to extinguish the fire. Participants will thenclimb the stairs to the top of the BRTC drill tower and return to the bottom of the tower where they will use a fire extinguisher simulator to extinguish a fire.

The second event is the Driving Simulator. Participants will respond to an emergency in a fire truck simulator while avoiding accidents and moving violations. Participants will also be required to navigate the truck to the fire’s location without getting lost.

Scores from both events will be tallied and the winners will be determined using these scores. Prizes will be awarded to the top participants.

These events are open to high school students grades 10-12 and anyone in the community interested in becoming a firefighter.Area Fire Department representatives will be on hand to answer questions, a barbeque lunch will be provided by the Pocahontas Fire Department, and participants will have the opportunity to tour the BRTC campus.
