The ‘Stand Your Ground’ bill has passed in the Arkansas House Wednesday afternoon by a vote of 72-23.

SB24 is would loosen Arkansas’ restrictions on the use of deadly force in self-defense incidents. Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee in a 10-9 vote passed the bill that would remove the duty to retreat, sending it to the full House.

The Arkansas House approved the bill on Wednesday and it now heads to Governor Asa Hutchinson.

The bill was originally rejected by the House Judiciary Committee.

Most of Tuesday’s debate focused on an unsuccessful attempt to loosen the restrictions even further. Similar legislation was defeated in the Legislature two years ago.
