According to court documents, Sydney Sutherland’s killer Quake Lewellyn allegedly struck her with a pickup truck while she was jogging down a rural road and later raped her and buried her along a highway outside Newport.

Quake Lewellyn is currently awaiting trial on charges of capital murder, rape, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse. He is currently being held without bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Lewellyn saw Sutherland jogging on Jackson County Road 41 South about a mile from her home.

Lewellyn admitted to ramming Sutherland with his pickup, loading her into the vehicle and driving her to another remote location, according to reports, then raped her and buried her body.

Sutherland’s phone was discovered 2.3 miles from where her body was located. Lewellyn’s cell phone was seized, investigators discovered he had been in the vicinity of where the body was buried.
