At 3:45 pm on Thursday Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an accident on highway 63 in Portia involving two to three vehicles. Initial reports stated one person had been ejected from the vehicle and run over by another vehicle. Portia Fire, Walnut Ridge fire, Black Rock PD , Lawrence County sheriff’s Office, and Walnut Ridge PD all converged on the area. A medical unit from Pro Med was dispatched along with a medical helicopter from Survival Flight.

Early reports stated only one person was injured with what was described as a contusion to the head and a possible broken hand. Traffic control was assisted by the LCSO and Walnut Ridge PD. Highway 63 was closed in order to land Survival Flight. Once on the ground the patient was loaded and flown to an area hospital for treatment. At 4:36 pm all units were cleared and the highway was opened back up. The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police.
