At 6:20 am Lawrence County dispatch received a 911 call reporting a head on accident just north of Portia. Early reports stated as many as 3 vehicles were involved in the incident. Portia fire department and an ambulance service responded, additional units from Walnut Ridge Fire Department and Medic One ambulance were requested to the scene. Two people were trapped in two separate vehicles and had to be extracted by the Walnut Ridge FD.  One patient was flown by medical helicopter from the scene and at least one other person was taken by ambulance to St. Bernard’s.

Traffic on Hwy 63 was closed for over an hour.  No word on the identities of those injured, reports from the scene stated the injuries were serious but not life threatening.  The accident is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police.
