Shortly after 6:00 pm on Thursday the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an unresponsive man discovered in a cemetery by the cemetery caretaker. Lawrence County deputies responded to the cemetery located on lawrence 131 south.

A male subject was found deceased of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. Once deputies secured the scene the Lawrence County criminal investigation division was called to the scene. The victim was identified as  46 year old, Daniel Kopp.

Kopp was an agricultural teacher at Highland School District who  was jailed in Sharp County on April 15th charged with felony second-degree sexual assault and four misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

In statements obtained by a Sharp County detective Kopp admitted to making poor choices and blamed  them on his juvenile son being taken into custody for bomb threats against the Hoxie School. Kopp had denied the allegations made against him.

Kopp’s bond was set at $50,000 cash and he bonded out of jail on Monday, April 17th.

Update from LCSO : On 04/20/2017 Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to old Pleasant Grove cemetery in reference to a person who appeared to be deceased. The deceased male was identified as Daniel Kopp. The deceased was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. No foul play is suspected.  Due to the gravity of the situation the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate pending further development.
