At 6:27 pm on Monday night the Lawrence County Dispatch received a report of a gas explosion at a residence located at 825 Wheel Street in Strawberry. The caller advised a gas line had exploded leaving a hole in the residence and smoke was coming form several areas in the home.
Strawberry and Lynn Fire Departments were paged to the call, by 6:41pm both Lynn and Strawberry checked on scene. Originally the caller stated smoke could be seen coming from under the structure, later it was reportedly coming from both the under side and back of the residence.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were advised along with Ferrell Gas and Craighead Electric concerning the explosion. Firefighters arrived to find the homeowner trying to extinguish the fire from outside the residence. The occupants of the home escaped the explosion without injury.
Firefighters were on scene for quite sometime making sure the fire was extinguished.
