State Representative James Ratliff released several social media request today for local farmers with crop damage during the recent flooding to notify the proper agencies in order to possibly get Lawrence County and surrounding areas included in a Federal Disaster Declaration.

Ratliff encouraged those with damage to contact their local FSA Office and report any damage to crops or loss of livestock. Ratliff went on to suggest that farmers/ranchers call their respective Congressman or Senator and urge them to assist with getting the declaration through.

Ratliff went on to state that “Our farmers are very important to our local economy”.

Lawrence County and surrounding counties in District 60 incurred more than 14 inches of rain in August with nearly 12 inches falling in the latest round lasting several days. Rivers in our area are still high and have not started to recede leaving much of the low lying farm lands still under water.

We will keep this updated as Representative Ratliff releases information.
