Fatality Reported In Head-On Accident On Hwy 63 Near Walnut Ridge

At 9:39 pm on Monday the Lawrence County Dispatch received a report of an accident on Hwy 63 near Southpoint in Walnut Ridge. Walnut Ridge Fire, Walnut Ridge Police, Lawrence County Deputies and medical units were all dispatched and converged on the area.

 

Hoxie Police also responded to the area and a request was made for a medical helicopter to be called to the scene. Early reports described the accident as a head-on accident. Walnut Ridge Fire was on scene at 9:44 pm along with Lawrence County Deputies. Hwy 63 was closed as firefighters assisted injured. Once medical units arrived on the scene the medical helicopter was cancelled and the coroner was requested to the scene, Arkansas State Police confirmed two people have been killed in the accident.

 

The Arkansas Highway Department was requested to the area to assist with cleanup on the highway. 3 vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident. Hoxie Fire Department also assisted with re-routing traffic around the accident scene. At least one person has been transported by ambulance to St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Walnut Ridge Police and Arkansas State Police are investigating the accident.
