Sex Offender Sentenced to 26 Years

​Henry Boyce announced today that a Sharp County man pled guilty and was sentenced to prison for sexual offenses committed against a child.

​James Lee Smith, 35, of Cherokee Village, pled guilty to one count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony. Smith also pled guilty to one count of Sexual Indecency with a Child, a Class D felony.

Over a 30 day period in the summer of 2014 Smith had access to a young child at his home. During this time period the victim was sexually assaulted by Smith. Smith was given a 26 year sentence. Smith is in the custody of the Sharp County Sheriff awaiting transfer to prison.

Boyce said, “I am please we were able to bring this case to a successful conclusion with the perpetrator admitting his guilty.”
