Authorities were notified on Wednesday of possible skeletal remains discovered by a fisherman on the Spring River north of Ravenden. The discovery was first reported to Chief Tim McComas of the Ravenden Police Department, Chief McComas than notified Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Yates, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigators, Arkansas State Police Investigators, Arkansas State Parks and Arkansas Game and Fish.

Authorities traveled to the undisclosed location and examined the remains which were located on an eroded river bank. After the initial examination it is believed that the remains are those of Native American and possibly more than just one set of remains were discovered. Investigators then contacted the proper archeology authorities to assist with the remains. Those skeletal remains that were in jeopardy of falling into the river were removed and be sent to the University Of Arkansas Archeology Department, archeologist will return and finish removing the remainder of the bones at a later date. 

According to the Arkansas State Parks, in the event the remains are those of Native American, the proper tribe will be notified for proper re-burial in a designated Native American burial site in accordance with Native American traditions.
