Lawrence County Dispatch received a message from the Jackson County Dispatch Center reporting a one vehicle accident in the area of Lawrence 730 and the new US 67, which has not yet been completed.
Law enforcement from Lawrence County, Craighead County, Hoxie, Cash, and fire departments including Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, and Alicia converged on to the new unopened highway searching for the accident.
The wreckage of one vehicle was discovered in the construction zone. It had struck a large section of concrete and rebar. The occupant of the vehicle was seriously injured. A medical unit from Medic One transported the injured subject to the hospital.
According to deputies the vehicle had driven around barricades on Hwy 67 in Jackson County and continued traveling into Lawrence County on the unfinished highway before reaching the area of construction where the wreck occurred.
