At 2:26 pm on Monday afternoon, the Lawrence County Dispatch was notified of a two vehicle accident on East Main Street at the intersection of 4th Street in Walnut Ridge. The Walnut Ridge Police Department, Walnut Ridge Fire Department, AET Ambulance and Medic One were all notified and responded to the scene.

According to the Walnut Ridge Police Department’s report, a 2002 Dodge driven by Andrea Spradling of 1506 Decker Street, Pocahontas was traveling northbound on 4th Street failed to stop at the intersection of 4th and Main and collided into a 2008 Toyota driven by Carmen Stayton, 1400 Ashley, Walnut Ridge.

According to reports, Carmen Stayton was pronounced dead at the scene, a medical helicopter was flown to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where Andrea Spradling was flown to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

The accident is being investigated by Patrolman Gary Tate of the Walnut Ridge Police Department.
