Saturday, March 15, from 10 am until 2 pm, Pocahontas Animal Control with the help of Randolph County Humane Society volunteers, will feature several animals up for adoption. The idea is to get more animals adopted by bringing them to a venue closer to town. This year’s event will again take place in front of Orscheln’s Farm and Home Store at 1966 Highway 62 West in Pocahontas. Thanks to Orscheln’s for their help and cooperation and use of portable pens and crates from which the animals may easily be seen.

Pocahontas Animal Control Officer George Pratt will help adopters with the completion of necessary paperwork for each adoption. For this day only to increase adoptions, the fee is reduced to $40; the remaining fee of $35 will be subsidized by sponsors. EACH ANIMAL, IF NOT ALREADY STERILIZED AND VACCINATED FOR RABIES, MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED FOLLOWING ITS ADOPTION. THIS IS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW.

Randolph County 4-H Paws & Claws Club members are busy preparing sock toys for the pets, and will be selling home-baked products to benefit their club on that same day. They will also be assisting with the event as helpers and in other capacities including distributing humane society ‘free stuff’ to children who attend.

Said an RCHS spokesperson this week, “If you are considering a new furry friend for your family, visit the animals at Orscheln’s on Saturday, March 15, from 10 am until 2 pm. THEY look forward to seeing you!”
