imageOn Christmas day the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ashley Stevens, age 31, of Walnut Ridge for possession of a controlled substance (meth) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest came after a deputy stopped Stevens for a traffic violation near Walnut Ridge. The deputy advised Stevens of the reason for the stop and during speaking with her felt that she might be impaired. The deputy asked Stevens to step to the back of the vehicle so he could speak with her further. The deputy asked Stevens about drug use and noticed she put her hands in her coat and grasped something. The deputy told Stevens to take her hands out of her pocket and to not put them back in her pockets. Stevens immediately stuck her hands back in her coat pocket. The deputy asked Stevens to take her hands out of her pocket and to empty her coat pocket. Stevens pulled out a wooden box. Inside the wooden box were two syringes, spoons and a glass tube with a clear liquid. The substance tested positive for meth.

Stevens was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail to await a bond hearing.
