Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson released a warning that involves a phone scam which has area residents concerned.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received several calls today concerning an insurance scam that is using local numbers.
Sheriff Dotson stated “Â the main goal seems to be getting your Social Security number and a credit card number. The local numbers are not who is really calling. A simple program allows scammers to enter any phone number that they wish to show up on your caller ID.”
The calls are being made to residential landlines as well as cell phones.
Sheriff Dotson warns Lawrence County residents to please be careful with their personal information.
