LITTLE ROCK –Mid-summer is a slow time for most Arkansas hunters, although squirrel season is open.
Everyone, at least those 16 to 65, needs a 2013-2014 hunting license, and buying it now means one less bit of preparation when your favorite opening day approaches. For many, that is Sept. 1 or shortly after, the start of the early Canada goose, dove, rabbit, crow and teal hunting seasons.
Arkansas hunting licenses expire June 30 of each year, no matter when they are bought. New licenses can be obtained at any license dealer in the state, at any Arkansas Game and Fish Commission office or online with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or E-Check to pay for your purchase. For online purchases, go to agfc.com and follow the instructions.
When you buy a license, you can also register for HIP (Hunter Information Program) for migratory bird seasons. It is required, but it’s free. You can subscribe to Arkansas Wildlife magazine, and you can make a donation to the highly successful Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry program.
