At 5:18 pm on Thursday, the Lawrence County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a boat capsizing on the Black River sending 4 into the water near the Game and Fish Launch off Hwy 361 near Lynn.

The Lynn Volunteer Fire Department and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive and Recovery Team were sent to the scene. Two of the victims swam back to the boat launch but two others were stranded across the river. Deputies launched the Sheriff’s boat and recovered the stranded individuals bring them back to the launch, Lynn Firemen attended to the cold but otherwise unharmed men.

The four were out on the river attempting to retrieve traps that they had out when the small vessel took on water and capsized in the middle of the Black River. After delivering the two back to shore, the Lawrence County boat turned downstream and were able to find the boat, overturned and partially submerged about a mile down river. Members of the LCSO Dive and Recovery Team were able to drag the boat to shore, turn it right-side-up and tow it back to the launch.
