On November 7, 2012 the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tommy Burgett (44) of Alicia for sexual assault in the second degree. The arrest comes from a call to the child abuse and neglect hotline about a 7 year old female being sexual assaulted. The Crimes Against Children Division of the Arkansas State Police contacted the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and an investigation was started. The young female was interviewed and gave a statement on what happened. Burgett was contacted by the Sheriff’s Office and agreed to meet with the investigators. Burgett was Mirandize and questioned about the allegations against him. Burgett admitted that the allegations were true and was placed under arrest by the deputy working the case. Burgett is a level 2 sex offender convicted for touching small girls in the past. Burgett was transported to the Lawrence County Jail to await a bond hearing.
