On Saturday February 25th the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive and Recovery Team staged multiple practice exercises with the Black Rock Volunteer Fire Department, AET Ambulance and Arkansas State Parks personnel.

Members of the Dive and Recovery Team responded with boats and scuba equipment along with firefighters from Black Rock and their Rescue Truck and a boat supplied by Lake Charles State Park.

The exercises consisted of a stranded boat tow which concluded with the boat being taken across the lake to the boat launch. The second exercise consisted of a patient with injuries and requiring CPR. Members of the Dive and Recovery Team and Black Rock Firefighters responded with multiple boats and recovered the victim. The process required CPR to be preformed on a patient while being towed back to the Snapp Dock at Lake Charles. AET Ambulance personnel and Black Rock Firefighters removed the patient from the boat and placed the patient into the ambulance for transport.

The third exercise consisted of a body recovery, divers were launched by Dive Team boats in the area in which the victim was last seen, within minutes divers located the body which was recovered by members in the Sheriff’s Boat. The divers also practiced evidence recovery by retrieving firearms from the lake bottom.

The exercise is the first of several planned this year for Sheriff Dotson’s Dive and Recovery Team. Boat personnel, firefighters, medical personnel and divers endured brisk winds, cold temps and even colder water to conduct the exercises.

Sheriff Dotson wishes to “Thank” AET Ambulance, Black Rock Fire Department and Lake Charles State Park for the assistance provided for this exercise.
