Recent high winds, dry conditions and warm temps have made conditions right for grass and wildland fires in Lawrence County. Over the weekend several fire departments in Lawrence County kept busy with grass fires.

On Saturday, the Hoxie and Walnut Ridge Fire Departments responded to over 10 separate fires, many occurring at the same time. Other departments such as Portia, Black Rock, Imboden and Ravenden were busy on Sunday and Monday with fires in their district.

On Monday, the Arkansas Forestry worked two separate fires in the county, one for the Ravenden Fire Department and one for the Black Rock Fire Department.

Use extreme caution if you must burn outdoors, take into consideration wind direction and dry weather conditions.
