The Corp of Engineers is releasing a list of proposed campground closings that could save the district 1.9 million dollars annually. In all, 29 parks in the Little Rock District will reduce operations with 13 to be completely closed down.

On Lake Norfork, the park at Jordan will be closed. This includes all 40 campsites, but the boat ramp will remain open. Also 10 of Lake Norfork’s summer workers will be reduced from full time to part time and the park will not fill a temporary maintenance worker position.

On Bull Shoals, two parks will be effected, Damsite and Pontiac will both be closed. The Damsite park will close all 35 campsites and leave the boat ramp open, Pontiac will also close all 33 campsites and leave the boat ramp open. Also 10 summer employees will be reduced from full time to part time and one temporary maintenance position will not be filled.

The Corp of Engineers will hold public meetings in February in Mountain Home, Heber Springs, Russellville and Ozark to discuss the proposed changes.
