On July 2nd, 2011, at 1:09am. Sharp County Dispatch received a call from a camper at the L.B. access to the Spring River. The caller was reporting that some young men could not find their friend who is 17 years old and possibly intoxicated.
The caller stated that the young men did not want the police called because the juvenile had been drinking. It was believed that the youth had fallen into the Spring River. The Hardy Fire Department Water Rescue Unit was called as well as the Highland Fire Department and several other agencies to assist in the search. The Body of the 17 year old male was recovered by rescue divers approximately 100 feet from the teens campsite. Investigators spoke to several teens who had been with the victim earlier. They all admitted that the victim had been drinking. When asked where they had got the alcohol, they stated that they had gotten it at at liquor store in Poinsett County by getting an unidentified man to purchase it for them. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
