Shortly before 7am calls began coming into the Lawrence County Dispatch with reports of wrecks on Hwy 63 from Imboden to Hoxie.

Deputies worked more than 6 vehicles and several semi trucks in a stretch of Hwy 63 north of Imboden on what is called “Smith Curve”. Wreckers from Dail’s Wrecker Service of Ravenden were pulling one after the other out of the ditches.

At the same time Lawrence County Deputies were working several wrecks on Hwy 63 near Heards Market south of Portia.

Temperatures were hovering just below freezing causing the light mist in the area to freeze on contact.

Local schools called off but not before the buses were already on the routes.
