Last Thursday the students at the Imboden Area Charter School were visited by Captain Jody Dotson and K-9 Officer Blake Liscomb of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for a presentation during Red Ribbon Week.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated the last week of October in schools across the nation to support students making healthy choices, being a positive role model and not use illegal drugs or illegal use of legal drugs.
Students were treated with “Ben” the Lawrence County K-9 and partner of Officer Blake Liscomb. Ben, born in Germany and trained in both Germany and Miami Florida has the ability to smell drugs inside vehicles, homes or on persons at a rate of more than 5000 times that of a human. Officer Liscomb also demonstrated to the students how Ben was trained in the German language.
Students asked Captain Dotson and Officer Liscomb lots of questions concerning the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and were told about the recent program in which the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office collected more than 40 pounds of expired prescription drugs for disposal.
K-9 Officer Blake Liscomb and Captian Jody Dotson then allowed students to see the special patrol car that is used by Officer Liscomb and Ben.
