The May primaries and June runoffs marked election history for the candidates in Lawrence County and surrounding areas.
Candidates used a range of internet tools to boost their messages. Never before in our area have candidates used MySpace, FaceBook and internet ads. Compared to other advertising cost it is relatively cheap and reaches countless readers and voters. Videos of a recent debate hosted by the Lawrence County Firefighters Association have been viewed thousands of time and continue to be viewed daily.
With estimates of 80% of households having internet service we expect this trend to continue for elections to come. Candidates James Ratliff and Jody Dotson both took full advantage by linking their banners back to their FaceBook pages which further expands a persons view beyond the black and white print.
